Training to Become a VBC Counselor

The VBC Counselor training program translates the theoretical approach into sound practice and combines digital learning with intensive in-person sessions and personal supervision at IPSO House, all while participants continue their professional careers.

The program is designed for psychologists, social workers, and educators who wish to deepen their expertise in a humanitarian context. Throughout the year, we offer two cycles, each consisting of 36 webinars (120-minute sessions) across 6 modules, which provide foundational knowledge of VBC® and the psychosocial interventions used in VBC®:

Training Phase 1 : Theory

In this first phase, we’ll work together to lay the theoretical foundation for your future work. The course consists of six modules, each comprising six interactive webinars. Three of the six modules will also take place in person at IPSO House during the on-site weeks. To pass, you must attend at least two of the three modules in person.

At the end of these six modules, there is an interim exam. If you pass this exam, you will be eligible to conduct practical cases at VBC.

Training Phase 2: Practice

The second phase of the training program focuses on the practical application of what you have learned. To ensure a high standard of counseling, your work will be closely supervised by experts:

Professional Supervision:

The practical phase includes ten group supervision sessions and ten to fifteen individual supervision sessions.

Documentation:

Your case work will be continuously documented on the Ipso platform.

Exam Eligibility:

The final exam is based on ten fully documented and supervised cases, as well as a detailed case report. Based on this practical experience, the supervisors and instructors decide on your eligibility for the final exam. This intensive support ensures that you have acquired the necessary confidence and competence to work independently as a VBC counselor.

Final Exam

The final exam consists of a personal interview during which you present your case from the case report.

Within a certification audit IPSO has proved that a management system has been established and is successfully applied in accordance with the requirements of the international standard ISO 9001:2015 for the following scope of activities:
